The Many Uses of Dawn Dish Soap

on Oct 9, 2018

Everyone knows that Dawn dish soap does a fantastic job of helping your wash your dishes and saving the ducks. But did you know that you can also use Dawn for an array of other tasks around your house?

Here are just some of the many things you can use Dawn dish soap for around the house:

Cleaning your toddlers’ toys

Kid toys can get pretty yucky if they aren’t cleaned often. An easy way for you to clean your child’s hard-surfaced toys is to soak them in a bowl of hot water and Dawn. Let them sit for about 30 minutes to an hour before rinsing them off, wiping away the germs, and letting them dry.

Unclogging the toilet

Having trouble getting your toilet to flush properly? Pour a cup of Dawn dish soap in the bowl and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then take a pot of boiling hot water and pour it in the toilet to help unclog it.

Note: This will not work for all toilet clogs. It depends on what is stuck inside. For normal toilet paper clogs, use this method.

Cleaning the toilet

Low on toilet bowl cleaner? No problem. Just squirt a little bit of Dawn in the bowl and take your toilet brush to it. Works like a charm.

Pre-treat clothing stains

One way to remove stubborn stains from your clothing is to pre-treat them with dish soap. That is, of course, if you don’t have laundry pre-treat lying around. Good ole Dawn works just fine. Simply rub it into the stain and let it work its magic before throwing it into the washing machine.

De-grease your rusty tools

Irritated with those old rusty tools? Soak them in a bowl of Dawn dish soap and hot water. Dawn is a natural degreaser that should have your old tools looking like new in no time.

Make a homemade ice pack

If you don’t have time to go out and buy an ice pack, don’t worry you can make one. Fill a large or small sandwich bag with some Dawn and put it in the freezer to freeze. Before you know it, you’ll have yourself a DIY ice pack.

Use it as a shower cleaner

When mixed with vinegar you can have your own DIY shower cleaner. All you need is an empty spray bottle, vinegar, and some Dawn to get you going.

Soak your hairbrush in it

You should be cleaning your hairbrush on a regular basis. Otherwise, you’re just brushing your clean hair with your dirty hair and well, let’s be honest, there’s no point in doing that. Take time to remove the hair from your brush and soak it in a bowl of hot water and Dawn at least once a month to keep it nice and clean.

Different kinds of dawn

The most common type of Dawn dish soap that you’ll see is the blue bottle of Dawn with a baby duck on the label. While that is the kind we are referring to here in this post, there are a few other types of Dawn that can help you around the house. There’s also:
