San Diego Home Cleaning Service : Guide to Small Appliance Care

on Aug 31, 2017

A San Diego home cleaning service can speak to the importance of maintaining small appliances. From the ever important coffee pot, to the time saving microwave,  we rely on small kitchen appliances daily. These handy little tools save us time, money and even energy. Most of us can not imagine our life without them. Despite how much we love our appliances they are often neglected when it comes to cleaning and maintenance. Here are some simple tips for keeping your favorite kitchen tools in great shape.

  1. The coffee maker – Remove any filters from the device. In the reservoir put a mixture of water and plain white vinegar. Run the brew cycle once. After the cycle is complete remove the carafe and rinse it with water. Run the brew cycle two more times with water only to get any additional vinegar out of the reservoir.
  2. The Coffee Grinder- Put a small piece of bread or white uncooked rice in the grinder. Pulse the Grinder several times. The bread will pick up any residual spices or coffee that were stuck in the grinder. To get rid of any odors you can run a tablespoon of baking soda through the grinder. Be sure to wipe it out thoroughly. This may be a task that you can ask a San Diego home cleaning service if they are able to perform
  3. The Blender– When it comes to cleaning your blender most of the work is preventative. If you are not able to clean your blender immediately after use fill it with warm soapy water and allow it to soak. When you have some extra time run the blender at a high speed with soapy water. Rinse it out. Wipe the exterior of the blender with a damp cloth and an all purpose cleaner.
  4. The Microwave – Fill a small bowl with water and squeeze lemon into the water. Put the lemon in the bowl as well. Microwave the lemon for 2 to 3 minutes. You will be able to wipe the microwave clean with a damp sponge fairly easily because the steam from the lemon water will help loosen any stuck on food. If you have a San Diego home cleaning service maintaining your home this is a task they should do on each visit.
  5. The Toaster– Move your toaster over the sink to clean it because it can be a pretty messy job. Remove and empty the crumb tray from under the toaster. Wipe the crumb tray down with a damp cloth. Make sure it is completely dry before putting it back in place. Turn your toaster upside down to remove any additional crumbs that may be stuck. Wipe the exterior of the toaster with a damp cloth

Take a little extra time as part of your weekly cleaning routine to focus on your small appliances. This will help with the overall cleanliness of your kitchen and it will also extend the life of your appliances saving you time and money in the long run.
